- A full 040 is an expensive chip. Perhaps a way around this would be for
- Escom/AT to leave the 040 socket empty with some of their systems so that
- dealers could put a full 040 in it.

- Prices of MC68xx040 as of Jan 1996 in quantities of 1

- 68LC040/33 - $164

- Escom/AT could ship an LC040/33 system to most places where putting the
- CPU in themselves is out of the question (most large computer stores or
- shopping centers). BUT, people who would want an FPU would not be left
- out in the cold. They could get it just as easily from a mail order
- house (which thrives from its mass number of configurations), to the
- small back-of-the-way Amiga shop. Also, people who got an LC version
- originally could latter drop in a full RC040 CPU. (They'd probably move
- up to a PPC, but the fact remains that they COULD do it if they wanted).
